Driving to Hungary/ Travelling to Hungary by car
The use of Hungary?s motorways is only permitted if the driver has attached a motorway sticker to the windscreen. Valid motorway vignettes or stickers are obligatory for these motorways M1 (from the Austrian border station Nickelsdorf -Hegyeshalom), M3, M7 (Budapest- Lake Balaton). Motorway vignettes are available at border stations, at the customer service offices of the State Motorway Management Company Ltd. And at petrol stations all across the country. Please make sure you only access toll motorways with valid vignettes! A fine must be paid for the use of the motorways if the vehicle doesn?t have a valid sticker.
Price of motorway stickers (Category D1):
4-day sticker: 1170 Ft (4,70 Euro) in winter season up to 1 May
1530 Ft (6,10 Euro) in summer season up to 1 Oct.
10-day sticker: 2550 Ft (10,20 Euro)
31-day sticker: 4200 Ft (16,80 Euro)

Speed limits:
In residential areas: 50 km/h
Other highways, roads: Caravans up to 2.5 t and motor cycles 90 km/h, caravans over 2.5 t 70 km/h
Clearways: 100 km/h, caravans over 2.5 t 70 km/h
Motorways: 130 km/h, caravans over 2.5 t 80 km/h
Outside of cities driving with dipped headlights is obligatory! Absolute prohibition of alcohol, 0.0ml alcohol level.
