Botox Anti-Wrinkle Treatment for Both Men and Women

Wrinkles in the face are caused by the natural aging process of the skin, by the susceptibility of the person, wrinkles are also affected by natural effects (e.g. sunshine), as well as by life habits (e.g. smoking). Botox was first introduced in the late 1980s by ophthalmologists for treating optic muscle disorders. The Botulinumtoxin was won from the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. First it was used in the eye medicine and in the neurology. Its wrinkle-smoothing effects and its effects for the healing of excessive sweating were discovered only later. Botulinumtoxin blocks certain nerve impulses. In principle Botox can be used everywhere, where dynamic wrinkles exist.

Today, the variety of Botox uses includes ocular muscle spasms, problems with eye coordination, severe armpit perspiration, and as an anti-wrinkle treatment for crow's feet, frown lines, and to eliminate furrows in the forehead. Although botox cannot be applied with certain diseases.

The Botox treatment

This anti-wrinkle treatment is a simple, non-surgical treatment that can temporarily smooth lines for both men and women. Botox injection is performed ambulatory in the doctor's office, usually without anaesthesia. However, a numbing cream may be applied to the treatment area. The doctor will then determine the amount of Botox to be used for the procedure. Depending on the extent of treatment, the procedure can take a few minutes up to 20 minutes. With a small needle a certain quantity of Botulinumtoxin is then injected into the marked points beneath the skin. The pain that appears during the injection is like a mosquito sting. Those muscles are temporarily totally or partly paralysed. Other nerve functions like e.g. sensation, senses for touch and temperature are not affected. The results aren?t visible immediately, they are usually evident and visible within one week and last about three to six months. The maximum effect will be reached approximately in two weeks and then it fades away slowly. Results vary among individual cases, and are temporary. Then the Botox treatment has to be repeated again.

After the Botox-treatment

The treatment area has to be cooled. Please, avoid any unnecessary touching of the treatment area. It is recommended to move the treated muscles repeatedly for some hours after the treatment (e.g. to frown the forehead is recommended). Please, avoid heavy lifting. Using a light make-up and gentle skin-wash is possible. Please, don?t go to the sauna or a solarium for some days, and also avoid direct sunshine.

The necessary units are approximately:

• Forehead furrows: 10-20 units
• Frown lines, eyebrows: 20-30 units
• Crow?s feet: 15-20 units
• Wrinkles between the eyes: 2-5 units
• Wrinkles around the mouth: 4-10 units
• Chin wrinkles: 2-6 units
• Neck wrinkles: 10-30 units
• Against sweating: 40 units (both sides)

Botox side effects and recovery

The most common side effects of Botox are headache, nausea, flu-like symptoms, redness and pain at the injection points. Infrequently, patients may experience muscle weakness or drooping of the upper eyelid muscles. This side effect usually resolves itself within days after the procedure. You can take up normal activities immediately after the Botox treatment, but your doctor may advise you to stay out of the sun.
